All CHOuting Clubs are “Common Adventure” Trips

It is important to understand that all participants in Coolidge Hill Outing Club (CHOuting Club) trips are common adventurers, in which trip initiators propose dates for trips and provide information. This means that you are aligning yourself with a group of people to share a common adventure or joint enterprise. The expenses and responsibilities of this trip are shared among all members. The administrative team are volunteers, not paid professional guides. The team gets ideas for trips off the ground and coordinates them. The success or failure and safety of a common adventure trip rests not in the hands of the administrative team or coordinators, but rather in the hands of every participant. Any instruction or advice provided by any member of the group is given gratuitously in a spirit of cooperation. Members of the group do not hold one another liable for accidents.

Do not go on this common adventure if you think it is perfectly safe. It is not. You and your companions are expected to use common sense and make it safe for yourself and others. Participate voluntarily and at your own risk.

Risks

When you participate in a CHOuting Club trip, you are risking your physical being. These trips include risks, hazards and dangers that can cause or lead to injury, property damage, illness, mental or emotional trauma, paralysis, disability or death to the participant or others. Some, but not all of these risks include: hazardous and unpredictable ground, water or weather conditions; misjudgments made by co-participants or others; travel in remote areas that can cause potential delays or difficulties with transportation, evacuation and medical care; equipment that can fail or malfunction; companions (e.g. co-participant, driver, medical and rescue personnel) who may act carelessly or recklessly. Participants voluntarily sign up with knowledge of the risks and understanding that administrators do not assure participant’s safety or eliminate any of the risks. Therefore, each participant (and parent/s of minors) assumes and accepts full responsibility for the risks (known and unknown) of these activities, and for any injury, damage, death or other loss suffered by each participant, resulting from those risks, and/or resulting from participant’s negligence or other misconduct. It is impossible to list all of the dangers potentially involved in this common adventure.  Before you go on the trip, you should become as informed as possible about the inherent dangers and make sure that you posses the skills and equipment to minimize them.

Responsibilities

In common adventure, you have very important responsibilities. By participating in a CHOuting Club trip, each participant assumes full responsibility for his/her own trip preparations, logistics, personal safety, and the safety of the group. Participants (and parent/s of minors) take responsibility for having appropriate skills, physical conditioning, equipment and supplies for these activities. These responsibilities include, among others: taking care of any personal medical concerns before commencing the common adventure and preparing for potential medical or other problems; learning about the difficulty of the common adventure and realistically evaluating your abilities; learning about and obtaining proper clothing, equipment, training, insurance; learning about risks and making decisions about participating in all aspects of the common adventure.

Personal Vehicles and Insurance

If you drive or provide your own motor vehicle for transportation for the common adventure, you are responsible for your own acts and for the safety and security of your vehicle. If you are a passenger in a group member’s vehicle, neither the CHOuting Club nor the trip coordiantor is responsible for the safety of such vehicle, nor will provide any insurance coverage. Each individual of the group is responsible for their own safety and responsible for having their own insurance, if they do desire to be covered by insurance.

Medical Insurance: No personal medical insurance is provided. It is your responsibility to obtain personal medical and injury insurance.
